Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Sports Coordinator is responsible for assisting to provide quality programs, friendly service, and a safe environment for the Sports Department. The Sports Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the sports programs, clinics, and classes. This position could include officiating and/or score keeping, assisting coaches, and assisting to implement a particular sport.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist in the development and implementation of high-quality programs
Drive growth in programming by both increasing participation in existing programs and by developing new and innovative program ideas to serve more youth
Assist in the supervision of youth in the programs in order to provide safety for all.
Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed
Maintain a professional and positive relationship with youth, parents, staff, community members and organizations.
Recruit, engage and support volunteers
Be a positive role model for youth, staff and parents and teach children positive ways of communicating.
Support the Director and other staff members in planning and leading programs and activities
Provide prompt leadership and assistance in emergency situations.
Assist in carrying out effective behavior management techniques in accordance with the YMCA behavior management policies and procedures.
Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
Assist in fundraising activities and special events
Complete all other tasks as assigned by designated Management Staff.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of various sports (i.e., Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Baseball etc.).
1+ year(s) experience working with children.
Must be able to work Saturdays.
A commitment to providing children with the highest quality youth development experience
Strong communication and inter-personal skills.
